Short Story 2:Last Goodbye.

Dear diary,

The weirdest part in falling in love is when you fall for someone that you never expect you’d be falling for. The first time I met him was when I was in college. They say whenever you found your very own Mr. Charming, all parts of the world will be upside down, and you will feel like someone punches on your stomach right away when you see him. You could never sleep, lose your appetite to eat and his face will be around you all day long. On the other hand, I did not feel anything nearer when I first saw him.. In fact, I eat, sleep and study well without any of his face imagination in my life. Until one day, he called me and we talked like normal friends do. It was so nice to know that you actually have someone neutral to hear and share stories that happened in your life. And that’s how the friendship develops.

Occasion One.
One day, I asked him out for dinner. Nothing flings but just simple meal with good companion. He was late and I remembered how the tempestuous argument occurred. He even refused to order any food. I was really furious at that time. I mean, why on earth you came if you don’t even eat the food they sell there?

Occasion Two.
I accidentally bumped into him while I was out with my friends for lunch. I don’t know why but I figured I should came up with an idea to tease him.. We were stunt to see him buying a lot of food which I thought it was all for himself and then I said, “Look at his size!”.

Occasion Three.
I was in the club waiting for the next performance. I was so excited to see my friend on stage performing live with her melodious voice. And then, there he was sitting at the corner of the table and ask, “Why are you here?”. I replied, “Watching my friend’s performance while having dinner which I bought it using my own money and not a single cent from yours. Do I have to explain to you every single activity in my life?”. He asked again, “Moral support?”. “Yes, and it’s definitely not for you.” I answered. I know he was also performing that night but I left the club right before his turn.

Occasion Four.
I heard the news that he lost his grandmother. So I expressed my condolences to him via text message. And it was in Spanish. He said he could not understand. I was really mad because I know he can actually speak Spanish quite well. He just makes excuses that he did not understand it. At last, he did say thank you.

Occasion Five.
I was crumbled up all notes to prepare myself for the examination. While busy revising chapter two of the book, I received a text message. He asked me when will I leave for the holiday. I text him back calling him busybody.

A week later while I was on the phone answering my birthday wish phone calls, I got a text message from a number which I don’t recognize. I immediately rushed to the hospital after I read it. I was speeding up my car wishing I could arrive at room 872 even five minutes than what I did. I opened up the door and the only thing I could remember was a human body on bed covered with white linen with red spots of blood and the sound of sobbing.

It was a breezy evening at his funeral. I had no idea of whom I surrounded with. They might be his close friends and relatives. Then, his mother came to me and handed me a black notebook. She said my name was the last name that he wrote in the notebook. And I remember, she said thank you and hugged me.

Two days later, I decided to open the notebook. It was actually an organizer. Then I came across to these.

5 March
Asked for dinner out of all sudden. Can’t eat anything though I really wish I could. For once, I hate this pain. Sorry.

27 April
Need to buy chicken curry for granny. She eats a lot. Saw someone and she said hi in her teasy way. So what if I’m big? What a nice day!

16 May
Perform at Apple’s around 9 p.m. She was there. No wonder. Her friend was performing. Didn’t know she was interested in charity dinner for the leukemia.

18 June
Granny’s gone. Wish her life could be longer than mine. Don’t know who to talk to. Family in grief. Be strong. Spanish condolences? Thank you. A lot.

20 August
Last paper. Wish her all the best for her finals tomorrow. Is there more time for me?

And the last thing he wrote on the next two pages was

There was a letter with my name written on it. I opened it.

I am sorry if this makes me look like a stalker to you. But for once, let me tell you what I really feel. If I could live longer, I wish to God that He gives me time to take care of you. To ask you what your likes and dislikes. To be with you whenever you need a shoulder to lean on. To be a company for your breakfast, lunch and dinner. To hear all of your stories and problems. To make your eyes almost popping out whenever you get angry. To tease you of how childish can you be at times. To call you tiger whenever you mad at me on phone. Mostly, I want to be there with you for everything. But if God let me live up until now, I would be so grateful to Him because I had the chance to know you. I don’t know why people always say they will have this major stomach punch whenever they see the one that they really like. I on the other hand, do not feel the stomach punch because whenever I see you I feel all my pain is not with me anymore. I am a normal person again who could always talk, laugh, smile, eat, drink and sleep normally. Thank you for making me feel normal as I was once.

It was on my birthday. It was then I could not say sorry for my behavior after all this while. It was then I could not explain how scared of how vulnerable my heart could be. It was then I could not say that I think I’m falling for him. It was then I just realize that he’s gone for good.

For once I guess the anonymous written quote was right.

A goodbye is not painful unless you are never going to say hello again.
